Hi Reader, This week on the podcast, I had a really interesting conversation with Dr. Maria Cichosz about how our culture shapes the way we think about addiction. Maria is a writer and scholar who has also experienced addiction in her own life and family. We talked about how our ideas about addiction have changed over time, from seeing it as a choice or weakness to viewing it as a brain disease. But what if none of those explanations tell the whole story? We talked about the powerful role that trauma, isolation, poverty, relationships, and our environment can play in addiction. We also explored how we can have compassion for someone struggling while still holding them responsible for the harm their actions may cause. One thing I really appreciated about this conversation is that we did not try to find an easy answer. Instead, we looked at addiction through a wider and more human lens. I think this episode will challenge some of the ideas you may have about addiction and hopefully leave you with a little more understanding and compassion. 🎧 Listen to the Episode Now More soon, P.S. If this conversation makes you think differently about addiction, share it with someone you think might appreciate it. Sometimes changing the way we see something is the first step toward changing the way we respond to it. |

It can be easy to mistake those signs for laziness, lack of progress, or just having a bad week. So pay attention to changes that stick around. If you notice...
Hi Reader, Are you giving yourself enough credit for the little victories? Recovery is not about getting everything right. It is about noticing the moments when you are doing something different, making a healthier choice, or simply showing up for yourself. Maybe you handled a trigger without falling into an old pattern. Maybe you reached out instead of isolating. Maybe you caught a negative thought before it took over. Maybe you got through a difficult day without giving up. Those moments...
Hi Reader, This week on the podcast, I sat down with Joanna Conti, founder of Conquer Addiction and the Vista Research Group. Joanna’s story is personal. After years of helping her daughter navigate severe alcohol addiction and multiple treatment programs, she wanted to know something simple: What actually helps people stay in recovery? That question led her to build a system that has now tracked more than 100,000 people in treatment and followed more than 50,000 after treatment. One finding...
