Make the Right Choice the Easy Choice

Hi Reader,

Here is a simple truth about recovery and mental health:

We tend to do what feels easiest.

That is not laziness. It is how the brain works. When something feels hard or complicated, we are less likely to follow through. When it is simple, we are more likely to repeat it.

So instead of trying to push harder, try this. Make the healthy choice easier to do.

A few examples:
• Keep supportive numbers easy to access

• Leave your journal on your bed after you make it

• Set your walking shoes out where you can see them

• Have nonalcoholic drinks & healthy snacks ready to go

• Set up your space to reduce stress, not add to it

On the other side, make unhelpful habits a little harder. Add a step. Create a pause. Give yourself time to choose differently.

It's not just about willpower. It is about design.

When you shape your environment, you support your future choices without having to fight yourself every time.

Make it easier on yourself. It works.

Keep going,

Duane
